~Homemade Happiness~

As the weekend draws to an end, let’s reminisce of our first homemade ice cream stop of the summer. We planned a whole road trip around it; and let me tell you, it was worth it!

We started our day off with the Farmers Market at Monroe, Wisconsin’s Square. There was fresh produce, honey, homemade bird houses, plants, and more. My favorite part about this market is that they have music playing from the center of the square. We then walked around to some of the shops that are located throughout the square as well. Chocolate Temptation would definitely be “a must” next time, if we didn’t already have a reservation to eat at Minhas. Chocolate Temptation had coffees, chocolates, ice cream, and so much more; it smelled so amazing in there that Sam had to leave before he was too tempted. ;)

While you’re in the Monroe area, be sure to stop at Minhas to try some of their hard sodas. These are the perfect drink to enjoy on a summer’s night with a cookout.

After leaving Monroe, our day continued with a gorgeous Wisconsin scenic drive to Columbus, WI. Destination: Sassy Cow Creamery.

Sassy Cow is owned and operated by siblings, James & Robert Baerwolf and their associated families. It was neat to read their history and information online: https://sassycowcreamery.com/ . We stopped at the Farmhouse Kitchen to test out some of their homemade ice cream. However, we wish we would’ve planned on lunch here as well as they had a variety of grilled cheeses, soups, salads, sandwiches, etc. that would’ve been fulfilling. A majority of their meals are served with their fresh milk – yum!

From the second that you walk up to the Farmhouse Kitchen, you’ll see plenty of outdoors activities for the family: a calf in a calf hut, adorable peddle tractor bikes, a giant tractor playset for the kiddos and more. If this isn’t enough, Sassy Cow also offers farm tours.

Now for the best part… Homemade ice cream. Wow, wow, wow! So many choices. All homemade with their milk, resulting in that heavenly creamy taste. Sam ordered the Triple Chocolate, which was chocolate ice cream with chocolate syrup and chocolate shavings. One scoop filled the entire dish for $2.75! I had a one scoop waffle cone with Pie Overload & Caramel Brownie. Pie Overload incorporated oreos, graham crackers, and caramel swirl – my favorite! The best part is, that if you want to take some of this delicious homemade ice cream home with you, they sell it right there in their store in sizes up to 3-gallons (which would feed 50-60 people). So if you’re ever in the Madison area, you must make a trip to this fun atmosphere for all ages.
